What was my role?
As a Compositing Trainee at Skydance Animation Madrid I worked on Swapped, the studio's animated feature for Netflix, focusing on the technical side of the comp department.
What I worked on
- Compositing tools development — building Nuke tools and gizmos for the comp team, streamlining repetitive setups across shots.
- The DiMatte workflow — helped kick off the digital matte (DiMatte) workflow in its early stage: exploring how mattes would be generated, named and routed inside the comp templates before it was handed on to be taken further.
Challenges
Helping shape a workflow meant thinking about the whole comp team from the start, not just my own shots: clear naming conventions, tools that fail loudly rather than silently, and setups an artist can pick up quickly. That was the biggest lesson of this production.
